Solar panel question?

October 22nd, 2011

Hi I have a camp wayyy in the sticks with no power and I want to be able to charge my phone. Its the samsung mesmerize by US Cellular. So I was wondering would a 20 watt panel be powerful enough for my power hungry phone? Also I have a 23 amp hr marine battery. Would that be sufficient to use with my panel? Also in case your wondering I’m going to be using a 12 volt car charger with my setup. Oh I also have an extra battery with a charger for my phone that I always have hooked up. Posted via Android

      Solar charger charging capability?

      October 18th, 2011

So I am in process of building a landrover style roof rack for my car. I am planning on adding lights to the rack, gonna try and go LED for the reduced power consumption. Put some facing each direction so if I need light I hit that sides switch etc. . I plan on powering this with a standalone battery, thinking deep cycle marine that can take being drained and charged more than a regular car battery. I was thinking of putting a solar charger on the rack hooked to the battery not only to keep it topped off but to hopefully re-charge it from usage,Anyone have any insight on what wattage charger is needed etc. . I wont use the lighst all the time, kinda if i need to light up where I am etc. . so it would have time in between uses to charge.

Can I connect two batteries in parallel in my boat without an isolator?

          October 14th, 2011

I just installed a larger stereo in my boat and am worried about running the current battery too low. I know there are a lot of battery isolators and integrator options out there for marine applications, however, I don’t really think they will be necessary for me. I’m never out for more than an afternoon at a time and always put the batteries on a charger when I get home. Can I just hook the second battery in parallel with the first so the electrical system “sees” it as one larger battery? I think this would be the same as running the battery selector switch in the “all” position. Thanks.
